Air conditioners and refrigerators work
the same way. Instead of cooling just the small, insulated
space inside of a refrigerator, an air conditioner cools
a room, a whole house, or an entire business.
Air conditioners use chemicals that easily convert from
a gas to a liquid and back again. This chemical is used
to transfer heat from the air inside of a home to the
outside air.
The compressor compresses cool Freon gas (A in the diagram
right), causing it to become hot, high-pressure Freon
gas (red in the diagram right).
This hot gas runs through a set of coils so it can dissipate
its heat, and it condenses into a liquid.
The Freon liquid runs through an expansion valve (B in
the diagram right), and in the process it evaporates to
become cold, low-pressure Freon gas (light blue in the
diagram right).
This cold gas runs through a set of coils that allow
the gas to absorb heat and cool down the air inside the
building.

The Air Conditioner system normally comprises
of 2 main components:
1.The inside fan coil unit
which produces cool and hot air when required
2. The outside condensing
unit that effectively takes the heat out of the system, and
produces cooling for the inside unit. The outside unit has a
compressor inside to pump up the refrigerant to make the whole
cycle work.
The condensing unit can support several inside
units working in different regions or rooms.
